Karen D. Nichols

Karen has won several awards at the FEC Celebrate the Arts, the Florence Rhododendron Festival Art Show, and the Siuslaw Library, including the People's Choice award. Karen is a Backstreet Gallery Artist and a member of the Watercolor Society of Oregon,  and a founding member of FRAA. She was also an eleven-year board member of the Festival of Books (she designed their logo).

Her unique pieces are executed in a variety of media: watercolors, oils, inks, graphite, acrylics, and photographs. Her signature work is bas-relief Paper Painting Collage. She has a line of handmade and photographic greeting cards.

Karen is also an accomplished author. She has written ten novels and two memoirs, The Moral of the Story & Moral of the Story Part 2. Her latest books are 2 illustrated children's books. She designs her book covers and those of other authors. Karen writes Backstreet's feature stories for the Siuslaw News and other articles. Excerpts from her book, The Moral of the Story, were published as a column in the Siuslaw News. She has also been a Jurist for the annual Northwest Writer's Association competition. Find her books in the Gallery and here.

Breathing life into her work is a ray of sunshine, a drop of rain, egrets, and a child's smile, just a few of her inspirations, which motivate her artistry in art pieces, composing, or writing.
