Biography of Kathryn Damon-Dawson
Artist-Painter-Author
Kathryn’s active muse roams freely and inspires her watercolor paintings. Concepts occasionally arrive in the wee hours via her dream-maker. Birds frequently assume the main role within her paintings but usually nestle with unexpected associations. Her recent series paired birds with musical instruments after a dream in which hummingbirds mistook her old mahogany recorder for a feeder. She woke up; went to her studio; and “Humming a New Tune” was born with many more paintings within that series, following.
Kathryn’s penchant for telling stories flows into both her paintings and published books. Tundra Rhythms: Adventures With Super Cub 75 Papa Charlie, (2022) emerged from true stories of adventures and misadventures over 35 years of exploring Alaska in their tail-dragging bush plane with her pilot husband. They were transformed by encounters with wildlife within Alaska’s intact eco systems.
Kathryn wrote and illustrated Dogs, Crows and the Corn-chip Dance, published in 2012, by Pacific Publishing, a backwards-counting, rhyming-lyrics children’s book.
Kathryn’s books are available via “Contact Artist” within this web site and at Backstreet Gallery, Florence, OR.
Kathryn is a Past President and Signature Member of Watercolor Society of Oregon with Platinum Award status earned at WSO’s Juried Exhibitions. In 2008 and 2018, she chaired the WSO conferences and exhibitions held at Florence Events Center in Florence, OR.
Kathryn is a founding member and currently President of Backstreet Gallery Cooperative, founded 2005, in Florence, Oregon.
